Letters to a Young Journalist

By Samuel G. Freedman

Genre: Non-Fiction

For years, talking heads have pronounced newspapers, and journalism, dead. Freedman, a former New York Times reporter who now teaches at the Columbia School of Journalism, could not disagree more. Freedman acknowledges that journalism is changing because of the new digital mediums of acquiring information and society’s obsession for getting the story now rather than getting the story right, but Freedman passionately explains the importance and excitement of being a journalist. Filled with personal tales from 30 years in the profession, the book entertains while it inspires aspiring journalists that the work—although demanding—is as important as it has ever been.
