Slow Getting Up

By Nate Jackson

Genre: Non-Fiction/Memoir

Nate Jackson is living the dream. A standout wide receiver from Division III Menlo College in nothern California, Jackson has soft hands, tons of football intelligence, and a history of injury. Using his raw talent, Nate is able to walk on to the San Franscisco 49ers (his hometown team) and secure a spot on the practice squad. Though he is eventually cut from the 49ers, he gets picked up by the Denver Broncos, where he plays for six seasons, moving constantly between the practice squad and the active roster. Jackson's story is unlike many football biographies that only highlight success. Jackson did play pro football, and he did start games as a Bronco. But the physical and emotional toll the game he loved took on his life was immense. Jackson is a skilled, honest, and funny writer, and his memoir is not to be missed, by football, and non-football, fans alike.
